“What a Wonderful World”
Sounds Historical Concert in the church on Friday 16 th October from 7.15pm

Following such an enjoyable concert last year, Sounds Historical are returning to perform at Combe Church on Friday 16 October from 7.15pm.

Their latest programme “What a Wonderful World” explores aspects of early modern life which people found wonderful and awe-inspiring – from mythology to mathematics, from astrology to astronomy, love, magic and inexplicable weather... to a lost whale!

Including works by Charpentier, Galilei, Monteverdi, Uccellini, Bach, Purcell, Van Eyck and Telemann performed on lutes, viols, recorders, flutes and more!

Combe Feast Weekend – thank you!

The Church Gift Day and Craft exhibition

Thank you to everyone for your support for the Church Gift Day and Craft Exhibition on 15 August. The craft displays were wonderful with such a variety of work to see. Thank you to all those who brought their work to show and so create such an interesting and enjoyable morning.

Thank you also to the village for your support for the Church and your Gift Day donations. In total £1047 was raised which will go towards the day-to-day upkeep of the church. Thank you.

Combe Feast Service

Thank you also for your donations to Combe Charities following the Sunday evening Combe Feast Service on Green, £277 was raised in support of Combe Charities.

Building works at St Laurence’s Church

Over the next couple of months, essential maintenance work is being carried out on the fabric of the Church.

• Preparatory work is in progress to replace the stone cross to the apex of the chancel roof.

• South Wall

  • We have been making great progress with the repair of the south wall plaster, which will be followed by redecoration of the Nave. The Chancel will be redecorated in entirety.

  • We have a small group who are looking at the present heating and lighting arrangements, with a view to upgrading.

• The Vestry

  • The repair and redecoration of the Vestry is long overdue. We hope to tackle this shortly, in conjunction with a review of our catering arrangements, to make the best of the increased available space in the Nave.

A small welfare unit for the use of those carrying out the work has been installed to the south of the Church; this will be removed once the project is completed.
